Villa Diamante - a small white wine gem in Campania.

The winery was founded in 1996 by Antoine Gaita and his wife Diamante on the hill of Montefredane in the province of Avellino. Here is a beautiful and charming landscape, characterized by steep slopes and enchanting views.‎ Here are warm days and cool nights.

‎The vineyards, 3 hectares of Fiano, lie to the north, 400-600 meters above sea level. All work with the wine is carried out organically and in full respect for nature. The primary goal is to give Montefredane's elevated ``terroir'' the opportunity to express itself. Traditional cultivation is therefore carried out with the least possible interference with nature. The soil here is deep, rich in clay, stone and old lapilli from the eruption of Vesuvius, really suitable for white grape varieties.

Also in the basement, the work is based more on observation than on human intervention. The recipe calls for spontaneous fermentation, no clarification or filtration, long stay on steel, approx. 12 months and on the lees. The long contact with lees has been practiced at Villa Diamante since the beginning and made Antoine known as an innovative winemaker.

Antoine died tragically and unexpectedly after illness at the beginning of 2015.‎ Daughter Serena, who is also a trained oenologist, has followed in her father's footsteps, as the new winemaker at Villa Diamante. She now carries on the traditions and passion, and honors her father's memory in the most beautiful way.

The beautiful green Fiano grape, which is grown here on the farm, dates back to Roman times. Today it is grown especially in Campania and Sicily, but the Australians have also caught sight of this wonderful variety. The sweet grape is fairly tolerant of drought and fairly resistant to disease, reducing the need for spraying in the field. However, the yield is more limited. It has a high natural acid content, which means that less intervention is required in the winery. Fiano ripens relatively late.

The result is often full-bodied white wines with lots of aromatic notes and wonderful flavours. Nuts, flowers and honey, minerality and fresh herbs.
