Collection: Weingut Künstler
In 1965, Fritz Künstler and family established their winery in Hochheim. The family had been growing wine since 1648, about 80 km north of Vienna. Today, it is Günter Künstler who is responsible for the operation of the winery after he took it over in 1992. He has taken the quality and the reputation of the house to new heights. The goal is to create wines that reflect the unique place where the grapes are grown. The vineyards are primarily located in Hochheim, but there are also smaller holdings in Rüdesheim and Assmanshausen in the western Rheingau. It is the soil that makes the Rheingau a fantastic wine region, as it is rich in limestone, slate and volcanic rock.
The soft hills have a southern exposure along the river Main, which runs east-west and meets the Rhine at Mainz. The confluence of these two rivers has created a unique microclimate that is ideal for fantastic wines made from Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).
Among the best fields in Hochheim are Domdechaney, Kirchenstück and Hölle, all of which are GG - Grosses Gewächses (Grand Cru). In addition, Herrnberg and Stielweg Erste Lage 1G (1. Cru) are the fields.
Weingut Künstler is a producer that creates exceptional Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) from some of the Rheingau's most exclusive vineyards. The winery has received countless awards and has even achieved 100 points twice in the 2021 vintage.
