Collection: Carmenere
Carmenere is a red grape variety originally from Bordeaux in France. It became widespread in Chile in the 19th century, where it was grown as part of a wide variety of Bordeaux grapes. Due to its close resemblance to other grape varieties, Carmenere was actually mistaken for Merlot for many years before it was rediscovered in Chile in the 1990s.
Carmenere grapes thrive in warm climates and have a high degree of ripeness, making them a reliable source of high quality red wine. They are known for producing wine with a deep red color and a complex flavor that includes flavors of ripe berries, chocolate, tobacco and spices.
Carmenere grapes are often used to produce blended wines, but their unique flavor profile also makes them a desirable grape variety for monovarietal wine. In recent years, winemakers in Chile have been experimenting with new techniques, such as aging in wooden barrels, to enhance the grape's flavor and aroma.
