Collection: Cortona DOC
Cortona is one of the lesser known wine producing areas of Tuscany, Italy. To obtain the Cortona DOC certification, the wine must meet a number of requirements, including:
-
Grape variety: Wines produced under the Cortona DOC must be made from a minimum of 80% Sangiovese and a maximum of 20% from other local grape varieties, such as Canaiolo, Merlot and Syrah.
-
Geographical area: The wines must be produced in the specific region of Cortona, located in southeastern Tuscany.
-
Vinification: The wines must be produced using traditional methods and must not use modern techniques that can change the natural character of the wine.
-
Aging: Cortona DOC wines must mature for at least one year, of which 6 months must be in wood.
-
Alcohol percentage: The wines must have a minimum alcohol percentage of 12%.
-
Taste and colour: The wines must have a clear, intense color with a soft and well-balanced flavour. They must have characteristics typical of the Sangiovese grape, such as fruity and tannic flavor notes.
These requirements must be met before a wine can obtain Cortona DOC certification and be sold under this name. The certification guarantees the quality and authenticity of the wine and helps consumers choose wines that meet their taste preferences and expectations.
