Tenimenti Luigi d'Alessandro Il Bosco Cortona DOC 2011
Tenimenti Luigi d'Alessandro Il Bosco Cortona DOC 2011
Il Bosco (bottled for the first time in 1992) is produced with 100% Syrah grapes selected from the best parts of the Borgo Syrah vineyards (280-300 meters above sea level). The vines were planted between 1988 and 1995, with a high planting density of around 7,000 vines per hectare.
The harvest is manual and begins at the end of September. Production per hectare is around 50 hkg of grapes, corresponding to a yield of around 800 grams per vine.
The low yield, which is achieved among other things through green harvesting (thinning of the grapes) at the end of July, together with the perfect ripeness, results in a very concentrated wine with elegant and velvety tannins, sweet fruity notes and notes of pepper.
The temperature-controlled fermentation (at 18-27 degrees Celsius) and the soaking of the skins is done in conical wooden vessels, and takes between 15 and 20 days depending on the year. The wine is then immediately transferred to barrels, where the lactic acid fermentation takes place.
The wine is aged in the barrels for 18-20 months, and during this period, samples are taken regularly to determine the few lots that will make up the final quantity of Il Bosco.
