Massolino Barolo DOCG 2019
Massolino Barolo DOCG 2019
The grapes for Massolino's Barolo Classico come from several different small parcels that Massolino owns in Serralunga d'Alba. It is the old classic way of producing Barolo, where you get the different characteristics together in one wine.
The subsoil is diverse, but the dominant type is limestone
After harvest and spontaneous fermentation in open Slavonian oak barrels (tini), the wine has matured for 26 months in large Slavonian oak barrels in sizes from 50 hl and upwards.
The wine is the most important wine for Massolino and it shows everything that Massolino stands for.
The wine has a classic light color, and in the nose you meet sweet cherries, mint, tobacco, spices, licorice and rose petals, which open effortlessly in the glass
It is extremely elegant and balanced, and in the mouth you can clearly sense the classic sweet tannins and the big body, which is typical of Serralunga.
We recommend drinking it at 16-17 degrees, and it expresses itself best as a companion to red meat, fresh Tajarin (pasta with up to 40 eggs per kilo), risotto and mature cheeses.
It can be enjoyed young or old, but it definitely wins with ageing, and waiting 15 years won't be a problem. It will still be fresh.
The wine is produced according to organic principles.
The first vintage of the wine was 1947.
