This wine is the typical Sagrantino, and can be called a cross between Cerqua and Macchie. Hardly as powerful as Macchie and not as elegant as Cerqua.
From 3.2 ha southeast facing calcareous field located 390 meters above sea level.
The canes were planted in 1998.
After harvest and fermentation, the wine has been aged for 3 years in a large Garbelotto cask.
Then 18 months in bottle.
This is a particularly durable wine. There are strong tannins and high alcohol, and the wine can match all kinds of strong food.

Taking the 2017 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle Grimaldesco is a heady experience, but one that keeps me coing back to the glass. The bouquet is spicy, with masses of crushed blackberries laced with a sour citrus and a hint of dusty dried violets to contrast. It floods the palate with textures of pure velvet, yet the feel is medioum-bodied, as ripe red berries mingle with saline minerals to add balancing tension. Just when I think it's going to clamp down hard, the 2017 instead provides a pleasant burst of inner sweetness that mingles with a saturation of tannins, helping to soften the blow. This is rockstar juice, but for best effect, make sure to cellar it for a few years. 95+
