Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
A very hot year in Montalcino. Several producers have harvested as early as the end of August, something we have not previously heard of.
At Cerbaiona they harvested from 19-24. September. The harsh heat produced a naturally lower yield.
Fermentation at 26 degrees in upright oak barrels (used for the first time for the 2016 vintage). At Cerbaiona, all the old casks have been replaced with new ones, and the 2017 must has been aged for 2 years at 17 hl. and 15 hl casks, 50% brand new and 50% used once before.
The wine was bottled in April 2020, i.e. something before normal. The wine has thus been in the bottle for 2 years now.
The wine is from young vines and it is not a wine that has the legendary longevity that Cerbaiona has always been known for.
Matthew Fioretti himself gives the optimal drinking window as 2022-2026.
