Fumin, a very grape with strong but soft tannins, blue juice was close to extinction in the 1970s when local winemakers saved the grape. Constantine Charrère saw potential in the grape and became the first to make quality wine and bottle it. The first vinification of the wine was in 1993 and vintage 1995 was the first vintage presented to the public.
After cooling, the wine has fermented for 12 days at 24 degrees, after which it has been left for 12 months in 300 liter French barrels.
It is particularly suitable for red meat and game as well as aged cheeses. The wine has a very fruity nose, spicy but also juniper is tobacco anes.
A particularly durable wine that must be tried.

The dark-skinned Fumin grape was traditionally used as a blending agent, but it is now often featured as a monovarietal wine. The Les Crêtes 2018 Valle d'Aosta Fumin sits pretty in the glass, reflecting dark nuances of ruby and crimson. The wine shows fruity tones of plum and blackcurrant, but you also get a whiff of the crushed white peppercorn that I often find in the indigenous grapes of Italy. This release of about 14,000 bottles is lean-bodied and would easily pair with a wide assortment of local dishes, including the unforgettable pizzoccheri buckwheat pasta.
